The Saudi Arabian Responsible Competitiveness Initiative is a two-years programme from AccountAbility and the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA).

The programme will take place from 2008 to 2010 and consists of key milestones such as the establishment of an Advisory Group, the roll over of national and regional Responsible Competitiveness Roundtables to help build interest and improve engagement and knowledge in the theme and the implementation and publication of the Saudi Responsible Competitiveness Index including company-level and country-level analysis. The Index, developed by AccountAbility, is an analytical method of looking at the links between responsible business practices, and corporate and national competitiveness.

AccountAbility takes the lead role in the design and implementation of the technical aspects of the programme, always in consultation with SAGIA and the Advisory Group.

SAGIA, whose interest in this project builds upon the national discussion on the role of the private sector in enhancing the country’s competitiveness through contributing to human and social capital development and environmental innovation, gives overall support and endorsement to the Initiative and has a lead role in the launch and effective communications.

The goal of the Saudi Arabian Responsible Competitiveness Initiative is to build social and environmental innovation into the core of competitiveness strategies, identifying the opportunities and building strategies to drive national responsible competitiveness.

The Initiative is a key part of the Kingdom's strategy to become one of the top ten most competitive and responsible economies in the world by 2010. It will do this by encouraging and rewarding leadership in companies, sectors, cities, regions and at the national level.

The Saudi Responsible Competitiveness Initiative will help businesses and policy makers:

- strengthen the regulatory framework
- build sustainable supply chains
- identify innovative products and services
- promote responsible communications and enhance good governance
